David D. Johnson
David comes to Topsail Re from JLT Re where he was Executive Vice President and Member of the Executive Committee. His reinsurance background includes extensive knowledge of non-standard and commercial automobile, structured reinsurance, capital market solutions, and regional/national property catastrophe placements. As EVP and a member of the executive committee, he was intimately involved in management of the company. Prior to joining JLT Re, David was President and Chief Operating Officer of Axiom Re, Inc. David was a co-founder of Axiom Re in 2001 which grew to be the 7th largest reinsurance brokerage in the US prior to selling to Brown and Brown Inc. in 2006. Axiom was formed as a result of a spin off from Aon Re, which was David’s first role in the reinsurance industry. David graduated with a B.S. from the Furman University with concentrations in Economics and Finance.

David comes to Topsail Re from Social Capital Corporation where he was involved in managing the investment portfolio for the company working directly with the majority owner and CEO. Prior to joining Social Capital, David played in the National Basketball Association for twelve years where he was a two time All-star and won a National Championship. David graduated from the University of Florida.

Robert H. Harnatkiewicz
Bob comes to Topsail from JLT Re where he served as Senior Vice President. He has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance fields. His background is property and casualty lines of business, with particular expertise with motor. Prior to joining the company in 2013, Bob was Chief Actuary at Axiom Re responsible for various aspects of analytics, including quota share, excess of loss and stop loss pricing, catastrophe modeling and ERM. Prior to joining Axiom Re in 2006, Bob worked at Munich Re pricing regional clients for their direct treaty unit, and working in their cost benefit analysis area. Bob also spent 10 years at Reliance Insurance holding various positions in reserving, ratemaking and research. Bob graduated with a B.S. in Economics with concentrations in Actuarial Science and Finance from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He has served on the CAS Reinsurance Research Committee.

Jacqueline S. (“J.J.”) May
J.J. comes to Topsail from Beach Re where she served as Senior Vice President, Head of Client Services and a member of the Compliance Team. She has more than 25 years of experience in the reinsurance business. Prior to Beach Re, J.J. was SVP at Axiom Re responsible for the Contract Wording Department. J.J. started her career with Willis Re with a brief stent at Aon Re. J.J. graduated from Elon University.
Thomas R. Gubash
Tom comes to Topsail with over 10 years of reinsurance and insurance experience, with his most recent role being in the insurtech field. Prior to his insurtech stint, Tom spent time as an AVP - Treaty Underwriter with Renaissance Re where he assisted in profitably growing their regional portfolio. Some of the treaty structures Tom underwrote included: Property Catastrophe, Multi-Line, Proportional, and working layers. Prior to joining Ren Re in 2016, Tom was an AVP – Treaty Underwriter with American Agricultural Insurance Company, underwriting broker-assumed clients ranging from national to regional carriers. Before transitioning to treaty underwriting in 2012, Tom was a reinsurance broker with Aon Benfield. Tom graduated with a Bachelors in Financial Management and a minor in Economics from the University of St. Thomas, where he also held an internship in Country Financial’s homeowners underwriting department during his senior year. He holds his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), ARe (Associate in Reinsurance), and ARM (Associate in Risk Management) designations.

Haoshu comes to Topsail from Guy Carpenter where she served as Vice President. After graduating from Arcadia University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science, she began her 8 year career in reinsurance by becoming a catastrophe modeler for Towers Watson’s Re arm. At Towers Watson Re, who subsequently became JLT Re in 2013 and Guy Carpenter in 2019, Haoshu was responsible for servicing clients with footprints ranging from regional to global. Most recently, Haoshu served as the lead modeler for JLT Re’s Florida market, where she developed her expertise in North Atlantic cyclones.

Khan H. Eakin
Having served 17 years with the North Carolina Army National Guard for a combined total of 24 years of military service, Khan comes from a non-traditional background. As a Master Sergeant, he served as an Advisor to the Adjutant General of North Carolina and state program manager specializing in compliance. Having completed several combat tours in the Middle East, Khan brings operational experience where all avenues of risk, focus and attention to detail were crucial. Furthermore, his experience as an intelligence analyst enables him to view current opportunities through varies lenses. Being recognized for authoring International, Federal and State policies in the military sector has earned him several multinational citations. Additionally, Khan has earned local recognition that includes the Governor’s Citation for Humanitarian work in both North and South Carolina, Key to City of Key West, Florida and the Bronze Star for Military Service in Afghanistan. Khan has been a successful local businessman and is active in the community with several non-profits. He has served as an advisor to the Governors Institute, represented the NC National Guard on the Governors Council for Veteran and Military Affairs, elected to the Greensboro Jaycees Board of Directors and holds a B.A. from Guilford College in policy studies.
Brittany L. Mitchell
Brittany comes to Topsail Re from JLT Re where she was the Executive Assistant to David Johnson. Brittany also assisted in the coordination of contracts and communications with clients. Prior to joining JLT Re, Brittany was the Membership Director at Greensboro Country Club where she worked with both the Membership Director Role and Executive Assistant. She was responsible for the training and guidance of all Executive Assistants during her tenure at Greensboro Country Club. Brittany is completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Sharon is a 20-year veteran of accounting and graduate of the University of Kentucky, Gatton College of Business and Economics. She moved over from Johnson Investment Group as Corporate Accountant to Topsail Re to assume the role of Controller and Benefits Manager. Sharon provides best in class servicing in all aspects of reinsurance accounting and claims management. Sharon is active in the community and supports several local non-profits in her spare time, including Feed the Hunger.
